Cookie policy

Last updated

RigDigest does not set any cookies. We do save three small items in your browser, and this page explains each one in plain English.

We keep this short because there is not much to tell. No tracking, no ad networks, no analytics.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file a website saves in your browser. Sites use them to remember things, like a setting or whether you have already seen a message.

Browsers also have a similar tool called localStorage. It does the same kind of job. The difference is that localStorage data stays in your browser and is not sent along with every page request.

How RigDigest uses cookies

Here is the plain version. Our server sends no cookies. RigDigest sets no cookies of its own on your browser. We use no analytics and no ads.

We do save three small items in your browser localStorage. These are not cookies, but they are a similar technology, so we list them here. All three are first party, are never sent to our server, and stay until you clear your site data.

rd-theme holds the word light or dark. We save it only if you tap the light or dark display toggle. It remembers your display choice.

rd-exit-shown holds a number, which is the time the newsletter popup was last shown. The popup can appear on desktop screens (wide screens with a mouse) when your pointer moves toward the top of the window as if you are leaving the page. When it shows, we save the time so it does not show again for 30 days.

rd-cookie-notice holds a version marker for this policy. We save it when you tap Got it on the cookie notice at the bottom of the page, so the notice does not show again. If this policy changes in a meaningful way, the notice may show again.

What we do not use

None of these are on RigDigest today:

  • Analytics cookies
  • Advertising cookies
  • Social media tracking pixels
  • Session recording tools

Third party services and links

When you submit the newsletter form or the contact form, what you enter (like your email address and message) is sent to Formspree at formspree.io. Formspree is a third party form service. Its own privacy practices apply, and it may use its own cookies or similar technologies on its own domain. We do not control that.

Some pages link out to other sites, like news sources, government sites, our founder's personal site emekaogbonna.com, and a RigDigest Facebook page. Those sites have their own cookie practices.

We do not embed third party content on our pages. No iframes, no embedded videos, no embedded maps.

RigDigest is hosted on Hostinger. Like any web host, its servers may keep ordinary server logs, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested. That is not a cookie.

How to manage or delete cookies and site data

Your browser lets you block or delete cookies and site data. Look in the settings menu of Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge, usually under privacy or site data.

Clearing site data removes all three items listed above. The site still works fine.

If you block storage, nothing breaks. Your display choice will not be remembered, the newsletter popup may show again, and the cookie notice may show on each visit.

Changes to this policy

If we change how RigDigest uses cookies or browser storage, we will update this page. A meaningful change may bring the cookie notice back so you can see it again.

If RigDigest ever adds analytics or advertising, we will update this policy first or at the same time. We will also add a clear choice for you before any non essential cookie is set.
